This was another challenging project of an apartment interior which was occupied by a differently abled person on a wheelchair along with his parents who were almost 80 yrs of age and father had hardships of parkinsons.

An environment that is friendly for differently able people should be space that allows a free and safe movement to function and access with dignity and independence.

A successful design ensures provision of an environment that supports the individual function of an individuals so that they can participate without assistance in everyday activities. Keeping all this in mind we created well conceived and aesthetically pleasing spaces which provided a sense of comfort, independence and control. All this was achieved in a builder apartment which was way beyond the concept of differently able friendly.

The common spaces were opened by knocking off the walls for a free flowing wheelchair movement. The doors were widened for personal spaces. The selection of materials like anti skid flooring, stone processed with leatherite finish to make it anti skid yet smooth, the lights, sensors, storages and furniture were chosen to integrate with the design purpose. Bathrooms were specially designed with proper seating ledges, accessible storage nitches, grab bars and no sharp edges anywhere.

Minute details were planned like the provision of geyser switch along bedside , spot lights above bed for medical examination when required etc. The home was put on automation to restrict the unnecessary movement and give maximum comfort to the residents. The home is simple and intuitive with equitable use and requires low physical effort.
